Im zweiten Halbfinale des Eurovision Song Contest steht nun die zweite Hälfte an – und hier gibt es endlich ein wahres Highlight – das zum zweiten Jahr in Folge aus Bulgarien kommt. “Voda” (Wasser) war im vergangenen Jahr die Überraschungsentdeckung in einem insgesamt gar nicht mal so schlechten Contest – dieses Jahr heißt die Entdeckung “DJ, Take Me Away” – was vom Titel her ja auch Eurodance sein könnte. Ist es aber glücklicherweise nicht. Dafür haben wir auch wieder genügend Songs aus der Rubrik “Lieder, die die Welt (und der ESC) nicht braucht”. Diese Gruppe ist in diesem Jahr leider besonders stark ausgeprägt – ein wenig erinnert das Niveau an die Contests der 1990er-Jahre – und das ist ganz bestimmt nicht positiv gemeint.

	11. Kroatien	Kraljevi Ulice & 75 Cents	Romanca	ESC-Teilnahmen: 15	bestes Resultat: Rang 4 (1996, 1999
Infos zum Song:	Ethno in allen Ehren – bei “Romanca” fragt man sich aber doch von Zeit zu Zeit, ob Kroatien damit nicht besser beim Grand Prix der Volksmusik angetreten wäre. Im “Stadl” würde das Niveau jedenfalls damit angehoben – bitter ist nur, dass man das fast auch für das zweite Halbfinale bis hier her sagen kann… Das Stück ist im Übrigen von einer Seite aus richtig gut – und das ist die Stimme des Interpreten. Insofern: Lieber Romanca als “Irlande Douze Points” – aber Fan dieses Liedes werd ich sicher nicht mehr…
Hyman sagt:	On first hearing this, I was left asking ‘what on earth did Croatia do with all their fantabulous divas?’ Alas, they seem to have misplaced them, and instead we have to put up with this piece of tripe which pretends to be something from Italy – and I really don’t like it. Not that I have anything against Italian music – I adore Switzerland’s entry, but this really doesn’t float my boat. Yes there’s something catchy about it (irritatingly catchy) and it does have a bit of charm, but I don’t think this has what it takes to pick up points elsewhere than it’s neighbours, few of which are even present.

	12. Bulgarien	Deep Zone & Balthazar	DJ, Take Me Away	ESC-Teilnahmen: 3	bestes Resultat: Rang 5 (2007)
Infos zum Song:	Die Messlatte für Deep Zone & Balthazar liegt extrem hoch. Sowohl musikalisch als auch vom Ergebnis her – gab es letztes Mal zu “Water” doch ein musikalisches Highlight, das Bulgarien auf den (leider nur!) fünften Rang – dem bisher besten Ergebnis für das Land überhaupt – führte. Und was soll man sagen – Bulgarien wird so langsam zur Marke für musikalisch interessante Beiträge. Mir gefällt dabei persönlich sicher nicht jede Idee, die hier musikalisch umgesetzt wurde – aber zumindest sind Ideen da und damit ist ein großer Lichtblick im diesjährigen Contest zu sehen. Und alleine dafür gibt es Punkte und alleine dafür hoffe ich dringend, dass Bulgarien wieder das Finale erreicht – hier wird etwas gewagt – DANKE.
Hyman sagt:	Bulgaria have gone for something totally different and dancey again this year after having done well with something, not similar, but hardly very different from last year. Following on from Romania’s string of success with dance tracks in the competition, it’s good to see someone taking their place on the eastern front, and this really isn’t all that bad at all. Saying that, I don’t think it’s as good as ‘Let Me Try’ from 2005 or ‘Tornero’ from 2006, but it’s still good enough to make an impression.

	13. Dänemark	Simon Mathew	All Night Long	ESC-Teilnahmen: 36	bestes Resultat: Rang 1 (1963, 2000)
Infos zum Song:	Also gut, Sympathiepunkte gibt es schon einmal dafür, dass Dänermark nicht mit Eurodance antritt. Und auch nicht mit einer Ballade, sondern mit einem Midtempo-Popsong, der sehr nach handgemachter Musik klingt. Damit wäre aber auch schon alles Positive über den Song gesagt – denn besonders spannend kommt er nicht daher – ebensowenig wie man irgendetwas Originelles darin finden kann. Würde also im Finale nicht stören, aber auch nicht wirklich fehlen.
Hyman sagt:	From I heard this song I was dreading having to write a review for it, and I’m even more worried about having to make a prediction. This hasn’t made a big impact on the fans or any early listeners – but neither did ‘Talking To You’ in 2005, which resulted in Denmark’s latest top ten finish. This song has the same happy go lucky, acoustic feel to it, and it’s certainly a catchy one, regardless of whether or not you think it’s actually any good. In a nutshell, I don’t think the song’s all that bad at all, but it certainly is nothing special. That said, it does have that charm which would make countries like the UK and France vote for it (also in the same Semi) which could just be the lift Denmark need.

	14. Georgien	Diana Gurtskaya	Peace Will Come	ESC-Teilnahmen: 1	bestes Resultat: Rang 12 (2007)
Infos zum Song:	Man nehme die klassische Eurovisionsmessage “Ein bisschen Frieden” und bastle ein Lied darum – im Falle Georgiens hat das Ganze was von einem Kinderlied. Das muss nicht wirklich etwas Schlechtes sein, aber nach dem mutigen und modernen Auftritt von Sopho im vergangenen Jahr ist das nicht nur ein kleiner Rückschritt, sondern ein deutlicher Rückfall. In einem normalen Halbfinale würde dieser Song gnadenlos untergehen – im Vergleich zu den ersten 13 Songs steht Georgien aber gar nicht mal so schlecht da…
Hyman sagt:	From I first heard it, Georgia was one of my favourite entries in this year’s Eurovision. It was brought out at a stage when I wasn’t really sure if there were that many songs in the contest that I liked, and I took an instant shine to this one. The song has been surprisingly underrated by fan polls and book makers, where I’m almost certain it’s a qualifier – or at least a song worthy of qualification. The stage performance of ‘Peace Will Come’ was rather over done, and Diana didn’t look well on stage at all. In fact, I was fairly sure that had she have been able to see what was going on around her, she would have changed it.

Diana Gurtskaya – Peace Will Come

	15. Ungarn	Csézy	Candlelight	ESC-Teilnahmen: 6	bestes Resultat: Rang 4 (1994)
Infos zum Song:	Eine bärenstarke Stimme singt eine starke Melodie – das hatten wir ja im vergangenen Jahr auch schon aus Ungarn. Diesmal aber ohne Blues. Sondern einfach Ballade. Und als solche sicher nicht der erste Kandidat für den ESC-Innovationspreis – das aber ist auch gar nicht nötig. Gerade in den Strophen sorgt Csésy für Gänsehaut und kommt damit zumindest in der ungarischen Version des Songs gut rüber – ob beim Song Contest auf Englisch gesungen wird oder nicht und ob dann der Text zur Abwertung führt, kann hier natürlich nicht gewusst werden. Aber ansonsten weiß das Lied durchaus zu gefallen.
Hyman sagt:	I never really knew what to think of the Hungarian entry on first listen, but now, it’s in my top five. Csezy sings a beautiful ballad (some may think slightly dull, but I think it’s great) and she carries it really well. The lyrics flow so smoothly into one another, and that’s what I think makes a great ballad. Being central European, votes can go either way with this one, but like Switzerland, I’d say they have a strong chance of sneaking into everyone’s top ten and picking up enough points to make it through. I hope they do, it’s one of my favourite Eurovision ballads I’ve ever heard. Beautiful.
